There's something called World Tour mode, referred to as the "single-player campaign", and that also has four player co-op.
Not necessarily sure how 4P co-op can really work, but still.
EDIT: But yeah, some of ASRT's additional modes are also echoing DKR's, so it wouldn't surprise me if the single-player also was. Whatever World Tour ends up being, it'll be nice to have a racing game with an actual adventure mode again.
EDIT 2: Ecco's creator has apparently being meeting with Sega, with the hope of a new game in the future?!
But if he's only just had meetings now, then it's unlikely that Ecco is in ASRT. :I

Well, in regards to that, the creator is meeting to create a new game. He's not touched the Ecco series since about 1994 I think, but has been badly wanting to make another. Sega already produced an Ecco game (The Dreamcast one, Defender of the Future) without him, so they own the character and wouldn't actually need to discuss it with him if they wanted to use Ecco. The company that made the Ecco games went bust a few years back, so everything Ecco belongs to Sega as far as I'm aware now. They wouldn't need to discuss it with him, if they wanted it in...
But you do still bring up a decent point that makes me a little nervous about that hope I had...

No, we just know that the Sonic roster is complete.
Still, there are 29 total selectable characters (I'm unsure if Metal Sonic is counted among these or if he's separate), and at least four of them aren't Sega. 21 characters have been confirmed so far - 11 of those are returning Sega characters from the first game, 2 are returning non-Sega characters (Mii and Avatar), 6 are new Sega characters, and then there's Danica and Ralph.
The entire Sonic roster has been revealed, so we know that Big is definitely not returning. That leaves Alex Kidd, Banjo and Kazooie, Billy Hatcher, the Bonanza Bros., the ChuChus, Jacky and Akira, Opa-Opa, Ryo Hazuki, Ulala, and Zobio and Zobiko unaccounted for. (I know one of these that definitely hasn't made it in, but still can't say anything)
So yeah, 9 Sega characters left over, and seemingly only 5 open Sega slots. But still, 29 character choices, even though they aren't all available on any one platform.
Either there are more non-Sega characters still to be revealed, the Wii U version isn't getting all the Sega characters for some reason, or certain Sega characters are getting alternative vehicles that count as separate choices on the character select screen.

I think Banjo and Kazooie have been confirmed as not being in the game. I'm not hoping for anyone in particular except for Ristar. He starred in a great game and that needs to be acknowledged more. I also would have liked Alberto and Jennifer in a Testarossa, but that was unlikely to begin with and Out Run is already getting representation, so I'm good.

From checking, this is correct. Which means I am no longer under NDA - they were the characters I was told about. The application form asked you to list your top 4-ish driving games that you've played in the last year, I listed N&B at the top, and like the Hydro Thunder WP7 thing, it came up in the interview. This is also what I was talking about with Ralph's vehicle - it does look a bit too similar to the Bolt Bucket to me, especially the wheel arches.
I was pretty disappointed by this - N&B style vehicles would adapt really well to the transforming concept, and as a spiritual sequel to DKR, Banjo being included would make a lot of sense. Still, the circumstances surrounding his inclusion in the first game were unique, and it's likely that neither Sumo or MS wanted to pay the cash to develop new assets for him.

Don't have time to listen to all of those, but Splash Wave sounds like a track straight out of MotorStorm RC (I must admit I'm not a big fan of that kind of music). Hopefully they'll have Magical Sound Shower in some form too.

Sega Miles are out, ASRT apparently uses a traditional unlock system. More worryingly, there is also an "XP system to level up characters". 1. How does this work in a racing game. 2. Is it disabled in multiplayer? 3. Is XP universal or per-character?
In ASR1, when I played online, yes, usually I'd start as Banjo or Avatar for the first few races, but then I'd mix it up with some of the others. I don't want to be discouraged from picking a character because I haven't grinded them up to level 50 or whatever yet.
Basically, either S0L or SumoRex were talking about how uninteresting Ristar was from a design-point, given that all you'd see from the back is a black ball basically. So it sounds like they didn't want to do that, thus making his inclusion unlikely.
Vectorman has also likely been deconfirmed as well due to design discussion. Also 100% deconfirmed are any teams (because there's a one character per car rule now), so HP's other hope is also dashed. :/

So Jacky/Akira, ChuChus, and zombie duo are on watch, then. My thought is that if any of these stick around it's the Chu Chus, seeing as Virtua Fighter characters are showing up elsewhere (Dead or Alive 5, Project X Zone) and I doubt I'm the only one that didn't remember Zobio and Zobiko were in the game. Or existed in the first place. But hey, I'm terrible.

How about the 3DS version? Mario Kart 7 is 60fps and the graphics look good...
PC version already runs over 60fps, console versions will be locked to 30fps. Mostly down to the water, it's fully dynamic and requires a lot of processing and effects.

I'm going to guess that Opa-Opa is also gone for design reasons - either he'd be riding something else (dumb) or his transformed states would be too similar to driving (boring/confusing).
I only remember Zobio and Zobiko because of that stupid achievement where you have to run over 100 zombies. This results in just putting the Curien Mansion stage with the spiral ramp on as many laps as possible.

Trailer, showing off a couple of the battle arenas, also a few ways to play.
In addition, here's Ulala: And Danica:
EDIT:
Quote:
NG – So is there anyone else you wanted in this sequel but couldn’t sort out?
GW - Well, there are a few that just didn’t work. I quite fancied the idea of Ecco the Dolphin but that would only work on the water – what’s he meant to do when he ends up on the road, does he have a little car? Can you put a dolphin on a bike?
Sonic & All-Stars Racing TransformedNG – Well, you could have it like at the end of Free Willy where he’s in a big Sea World tank attached to the back of a truck.
GW - [Laughs] See, that would have worked. We were also thinking of maybe putting him on a giant penny farthing. So yeah, some worked and some didn’t, so it was more that we just couldn’t come up with viable vehicles for each one. So there were a few that would have just been a bit ridiculous.

One of those old timey bicycles with the ridiculously big front wheel, occasionally used by hipsters who feel that regular bikes are too mainstream.
Demo of 3DS version is in development. Hopefully this means the other versions are getting one too. Still, it has to be worrying that nothing from the 3DS version has been shown off previously...

Man what? Ecco hard? I can easily come up with concepts for him in a matter of minutes that would work for all 3 enviroments and remain canonical for the series!
I'll probably doodle them tonight to show...
